Here's What You Should Know About Your Eyelash Cycle

Do you ever notice that some of your lashes have fallen out and then start to freak out or worry?

As much as we’d love for our lashes to stay on forever, the fact is that our natural lashes follow a lash cycle and fall out at various intervals. That’s why a full set of eyelash extensions usually lasts for up to 6 weeks.

While it might feel like a reason to panic when you notice that your lashes have fallen, fret not – because the lash cycle ensures that new lashes will grow and replace the ones that have fallen out. Read on to learn more about the eyelash cycle.

Each eyelash follows a three-part growth cycle:

  1. Anagen Phase: In this phase, your lashes are actively growing for 30 to 45 days and will stop once they reach a specific length.Around 40% of the upper lashes and 15% of the lower lashes will be in this stage at any given time, which explains why all your lashes don’t fall out at the same time!

  1. Catagen Phase: At this transition phase, your lashes would have reached their designated length. Hence, the hair follicle would start to shrink. If an eyelash falls out during the catagen phase, it would take a longer time (typically 2 to 3 weeks) to grow back as the follicle has to complete this stage.

  1. Telogen Phase: This final phase is a hundred day resting cycle where your lashes will be as they are, and eventually fall out for new lashes to take their place. As mentioned earlier, our lashes are in different stages of the cycle so it’s only natural for some to fall out each day.

With Chinese New Year around the corner, we’re pretty sure you’ve done your shopping and preparations. But what about your eyelashes? For those who have had lash extensions for awhile, you might notice small gaps if some strands have fallen off due to the lash cycle. Fortunately, these gaps wouldn’t be as obvious if you opted for the individual lash-by-lash kind of extensions as compared to the traditional cluster lashes. Even so, why not do infills so you can look and feel your best during the festive season!

By touching up once your lashes start to fall off, you’d be able to maintain the full, lush look that you get when you have a fresh set of lash extensions. At Lucky Lash & Brow, we highly recommend doing infills within 2 weeks to keep your lashes on point. If you decide to come back after the third week, it would be considered a new set. So why not just come back a little earlier?
